James Kipsiele Tembur assumes the role of Director-General of the National Youth Service (NYS), as per a gazette notice dated December 19, 2023. The appointment, endorsed by President William Samoei Ruto, grants Kipsiele a three-year term, effective from December 20, 2023, in accordance with the powers vested by section 16(1) of the National Youth Service Act.
The selection process leading to this appointment unfolded in November, culminating in the shortlisting of five candidates for the position. The subsequent interviews took place on December 4, 2023, at the NYS headquarters. Among the contenders were Njiri Nelson Mugweru, Anjere Alfred Tom, Nakitari Humphrey Okuku, and Mbaruku Moses Njeru.

Having served in an acting capacity, James Kipsiele Tembur stepped into the position after the tenure of Matilda Sakwa concluded in April 2023. The President's endorsement solidifies Kipsiele's role at the helm of the NYS, entrusting him with the responsibilities tied to the organization's youth-focused initiatives and programs for the next three years.
